How Can swelling And Pain In The Neck Be Treated?

18 year old son. Sick since December and treated for sinus issues with three antibiotics (2 Zpacks and 1 ten day round of Augmentin). Symptoms continued and then swelling started in face and neck. Had a lot of neck/throat pain. Was tested for mono and cat scratch fever--both came back negative. ENT gave him rx for Septra as it was wide spectrum--this finally cured the neck/throat issues. However, now have groin pain, swollen lymph node in groin, headaches and extreme nausea. Saw urologist on Thurs. Did ultrasound of groin and said there is some pooling of blood--similiar to varicose veins. Have CT scan of abdomen on Monday to check kidneys and other organs. Dr. wants to see the blood flow of kidneys. In the meantime, he will not eat due to nausea.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Sounds to be due to systemic immune response to underlying inflammatory condition which can be due to various reasons. Though primary relief with gargles, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drugs with Chymoral forte and Diclofenac or so forth according to the choice of consultant.

The final step of management depends upon the biopsy examination of one of the lymph node after thorough surgical examination of the patient.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
General Surgeon
